Woman Lawyer Alleges Assault in Noida Police Station, SC Orders CCTV Footage

Lucknow: A woman lawyer who went to the police station to help a client was mistreated by the police. She was physically and sexually assaulted. The woman lawyer has approached the Supreme Court. In this context, the top court has sought the CCTV footage of the police station. (Supreme Court) After midnight on December 3, the woman lawyer went to the police station in Sector 126, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to help a client. She insisted that an FIR be registered on the complaint of the seriously injured client, Vinay Singhal.

Meanwhile, the police, along with the station house officer on duty at that time, illegally detained the female lawyer. From 12.30 am to 2 pm, she was physically tortured. Sexually harassed. The black coat worn by the female lawyer was torn. Her clothes were checked for a hidden video recorder. During this, she alleged that she was touched and behaved indecently.

Moreover, the police officer put a pistol to the neck of the female lawyer. He forced her to tell him the password of her mobile phone. Otherwise, he threatened to kill her in a ‘fake encounter’. The female lawyer claimed that the police forcibly deleted the video evidence recorded on the mobile phones of the client and the lawyer.

On the other hand, the woman lawyer, who was tortured and sexually harassed for about 14 hours at the police station, approached the Supreme Court, alleging that her life and freedom were threatened. The court sought special intervention in this matter.

Meanwhile, a bench of Supreme Court Justices Vikram Nath and NV Anjaria heard the petition. It ordered the Sector 126 Noida Police Station to submit the CCTV footage in a sealed cover by January 7. It also directed the Noida Police Commissioner to ensure that the CCTV footage related to that period is not deleted.
