Bilaspur. People from an NGO contacted a woman living in the city over phone to ask for donations for social work. The operators of the alleged NGO took money from the woman by promising to help sick and poor children. After this, they asked for money to help a sick child. When the woman could not give the money, she was blackmailed, blaming her for the child’s death. The woman has been cheated of 25 lakhs. On the complaint of the incident, a crime has been registered in the Range Cyber Police Station and the matter is being investigated.
Range Cyber Police Station in-charge officer IPS and Kotwali CSP Akshay Pramod Sabdra said that a woman has complained of a fraud of 25 lakhs. The woman told that some people had contacted her to ask for donations for a social work. The people of the alleged NGO told the woman that they work for the treatment and development of sick and poor children. Believing their words, the woman first donated some money. After this, more money was demanded from the woman for the treatment of a sick child. The woman could not give them the money then. After this, the fraudsters called the woman and told her that the child had died due to lack of treatment. The fraudsters started threatening the woman, blaming her for this. After this, Rs 25 lakh was taken from the woman on different pretexts.
When the demand of the fraudsters kept increasing, the woman informed her relatives about the whole matter. After this, a complaint of the incident was made in the Range Cyber Police Station. On the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a crime and started investigating the matter. IPS Akshay Pramod Sabdra said that the matter is sensitive. Due to this, the name of the victim woman is not being revealed by the police.
