Tripura Motha Party handed over all the responsibilities of selecting the candidate for Tripura East Lok Sabha seat to party founder and leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
A few days after this assignment, he stressed the importance of sending the right person to Delhi to take the Tiprasa issue forward without facing hurdles. Debbarma spoke to the media after Motha leaders Brishketu Debbarma and Animesh Debbarma were included in the Manik Saha cabinet.
Debbarma said, “I give priority to the selection of a candidate who will advocate for the Tiprasa people in Delhi. At the state, I will continue to speak on behalf of our community. Our ideology remains unchanged, and our focus remains on providing opportunities and employment for our people.
Pradyot’s comments assume significance in the light of reports that his sister, Pragya Debbarma, is likely to be selected as the candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat. This seat is currently held by BJP’s Rebti Tripura.
Notably, Pragya ran for the seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket, but was unsuccessful. At the same time, BJP has made Rajya Sabha MP and former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb its candidate from Tripura West Lok Sabha seat.
The seat is currently held by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, BJP’s Pratima Bhowmik. Notably, Tripura has only two Lok Sabha seats – Tripura East and Tripura West, both currently held by the BJP.
