In a dramatic turn of events, the Chennai police launched an extensive search operation involving over 100 rag pickers and corporation workers to locate the body of a newborn boy allegedly abandoned by his mother in Maduravoyal. The unfolding tragedy sheds light on a disturbing tale of domestic abuse and deception.
According to police reports, Anjali (21) and her partner Ravi (27), an auto driver, were residing in Dhanalakshmi Nagar, Maduravoyal. Anjali gave birth to a baby boy three months ago at the government hospital in Egmore. However, the infant reportedly suffered from various ailments, leading to his demise on Monday afternoon. Allegedly fearing abuse from Ravi, Anjali confessed to disposing of the body in a garbage bin.
The situation escalated when Ravi returned home and inquired about the child’s whereabouts. Anjali initially claimed the baby had gone missing, sparking a missing child report. However, her inconsistent statements raised suspicion, eventually leading to her confession.
After extensive questioning, Anjali admitted to discarding the baby’s body in a garbage bin. She cited fear of blame from Ravi regarding the child’s health issues and subsequent death as her motive for concealing the truth.
The Chennai police mobilized a significant workforce, including rag pickers and corporation staff, to scour through numerous garbage bins in the area, along with searches in waste trucks and the Perungudi dumpyard. Maduravoyal police have filed a case of unnatural death, with investigations ongoing.
The discovery of the infant’s body will be pivotal in determining the circumstances surrounding his death, whether due to illness or other factors, pending a thorough autopsy.
This distressing incident underscores the need for heightened awareness and support mechanisms for individuals facing domestic challenges, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and assistance in preventing such tragic outcomes.
