In ancient times there was a city named Bhadravati on the banks of river Saraswati. There lived a Vaishya named Dhanpal. He always used to do virtuous deeds. He had five sons. The youngest son always used to spend his father’s wealth in sinful deeds. One day he was seen roaming around the town square with his arm around the bride’s neck. Angry, the father threw him out of the house.
Vaishya’s son now started mourning day and night. One day Maharishi reached Kaundilya’s hermitage. It was the month of Vaishakh. Rishi Kaundilya had come after bathing in the Ganges. That Munivar went to Kaundilya and said with folded hands, Brahmin! Dwijshrestha! Have mercy on me and tell me such a fast that I can be freed from the influence of virtue.
Then Rishi Kaundilya told that in the Shuklapaksha of Vaishakh month, fast on Ekadashi, famous as Mohini. The sins of many births are also destroyed by the virtue of this fast. Then he fasted according to the method told by the sage. Due to which all his sins were cut off and he went to Vishnu Dham.
