Lord Buddha was born on the full moon of Vaishakh month, this full moon is also known as Buddha Purnima. Buddha Purnima is a special festival for Buddhist followers as well as Hindus. In Hinduism, Gautam Buddha is considered the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to historians, Buddha’s lifetime is 563-483 BC. Most people consider the place called Lumbini in Nepal to be the birth place of Buddha. Gautam Buddha died at the age of 80 in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Day of attaining Buddhahood and Mahaparinirvana
Buddha Purnima is not only related to Buddha for life, but on this full moon date, after years of wandering in the forest and doing hard penance, Buddha got the knowledge of the truth under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. It can be said that he got knowledge only on Vaishakh Purnima. After this, Mahatma Buddha created a new light in the whole world with the light of his knowledge and his Mahaparinirvana took place in Kushinagar on the day of Vaishakh Purnima. Significance of Buddha Purnima
Vaishakh is the second month according to the Hindu calendar. The birthday of Lord Gautam Buddha, the 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is celebrated on the day of Vaishakh Purnima. It is also called Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti. It is believed that Lord Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment on this day under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. This day is like a festival for the followers of Lord Buddha. Kurma Jayanti is also celebrated on the day of Vaishakh Purnima. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Kurma on this day to save the earth.
