West Bengal: Disciplinary action initiated against governor, a central government official said The Union Home Ministry has initiated disciplinary action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel and a DCP for allegedly defaming the office of the West Bengal Governor by promoting and spreading rumours. The Union ministry’s action came after West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose submitted a report on Goel and Kolkata Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Indira Mukherjee Central, alleging that they were “acting in a manner totally unbecoming of a public servant,” he said. Bose, in his report submitted to the Home Minister in the last week of June, highlighted the problems faced by Calcutta police officers who did not allow victims of post-poll violence to meet them despite giving the necessary permission. “The Union Home Ministry has initiated disciplinary action against the IPS officers based on a detailed report submitted by Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose,” the official told PTI, adding that copies of the letter were sent to the state government on July 4. The Bengal governor also accused other police officers posted at the Raj Bhavan of promoting and encouraging the fabricated allegations of a woman employee during April-May 2024, the official said. “These IPS officers by their actions have not only tarnished the standing of the governor but have also acted in a manner totally unbecoming of a public servant. They have conveniently chosen to ignore the rules of conduct,” he added.
