West Bengal: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has issued clarifications regarding professional qualifications for recruitment of upper primary teachers. The clarification comes after confusion arose due to the words used in the recommendation letters issued to candidates. In the recommendation letters issued by the WBSSC, the qualification of candidates is described as ‘Graduation with B.Ed’, which led to complications when some candidates approached schools for appointment. Re-verification revealed that many candidates have different qualifications, including Diploma in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Education in Special Education, 1-year B.Ed. or 4-year Integrated Bachelor in Elementary Education.
These variations in qualifications created complications for candidates, as schools were hesitant to issue appointment letters due to discrepancies between the qualifications mentioned in the recommendation letters and the actual credentials of the candidates. In its clarification, the WBSSC stressed that all types of professional qualifications mentioned in sub-rule (u) of Rule 2 of the West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection for Appointment to the Post of Teachers for Upper Primary Level Schools) Rules, 2016, are acceptable for recruitment.
