Wayanad Township: Rehabilitation becoming a reality, 178 houses to be handed over

KALPETTA: The first phase of houses in the township built by the government for the victims of the Wayanad landslide will be handed over soon. The Chief Minister will hand over the keys. 178 houses are being handed over. The township built by the government is in Kalpetta Elston Estate. A large crowd was present at the ceremony. The first phase of houses in the Wayanad township is being handed over. The Chief Minister, along with other ministers, visited and evaluated the houses before arriving at the key handover ceremony. The key handover ceremony will take place at a large venue adjacent to the township.

A total of 405 houses have been constructed by the government through the township. The construction work of the remaining houses is progressing rapidly. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister shared the harrowing memories of the disaster and the importance of rehabilitation.A total of 410 houses are being constructed on 64.47 hectares. Of these, 405 houses are part of the township. The construction of 304 houses has already been completed. The government aims to hand over all the houses by April. The construction is being done for Rs 299 crore through an agreement with the Uralungal Labour Contract Society. The township is envisioned as a small city with all the amenities rather than just a residential complex.Health centre, Anganwadi, Library, community centre, multipurpose hall, market, playground, open theatre, and electricity substation will be available here. A landslide memorial is also being built here to commemorate the disaster. The ceremony, which was held in the presence of a large crowd, was attended by ministers of various departments and public representatives.
