Medak: Former Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy has demanded the immediate release of 0.3 TMC of water from the Singur Project for crops cultivated under the Ghanapur ayacut. He along with BRS leaders handed over a petition to Collector Pratima Singh at the Medak Collectorate on Monday.
He expressed concern that farmers are cultivating rice in thousands of acres in Yasangi under the Ghanapur ayacut and that the crops are drying up due to lack of water. He said that if the government had declared a crop holiday in advance, the farmers would not have cultivated rice. He said that the crop holiday was declared after the rice was sown. He demanded that the government, which has declared a crop holiday, immediately pay crop compensation to the farmers.
He said that the state government has released water from the Singur project to the Ghanapuram Ayakatta but there are no permissions and that water is not being released at the Manjeera Dam near Sangareddy. Officials are saying that the Manjeera dams have been storing water for the drinking water needs of Hyderabad, but the government is not paying attention to the withering of crops, he said.
They said that if the water is not released, they will launch a large-scale struggle against the government. Former Zilla Parishad Vice President Lavanya Reddy, former Municipal Chairman Mallikarjun Goud, BRS Urban Convener Mamindla Anjaneyulu, Councilors Zubair, Batti Uday, and leaders participated in this program.
