Islamabad: Voting is underway in the Sindh Provincial Assembly on Saturday to elect the 14th President of Pakistan. According to Dawn report, the elections began at 10 am and will end at 4 pm. PPP and PML-N’s joint candidate Asif Ali Zardari and Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai are in the fray for the presidential post. PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is the husband of late Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and father of former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of the Senate, the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies. The election is being held through secret ballot, with Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq acting as the presiding officer for the election. A joint session of Parliament is being held at the Parliament House, where members of the National Assembly and the Senate are exercising their voting rights. Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had assured the PML(N) MPs that his father Asif Ali Zardari would take care of the Punjab MPs the same way he takes care of them.
