Visakhapatnam Visakhapatnam: The construction of tunnels on the Kothavalasa Araku section of KK Line has reached a significant milestone with the blasting of the 1.4 km long Tunnel No. 5 between Boddawara and Shivalingapuram. The work was supervised by Divisional Railway Manager Waltair Saurabh Prasad. This is a significant step taken as part of the ongoing efforts to double the railway line by March 2026. This is the fourth of the six tunnels to be built in the difficult Boddawara Shivalingapuram section. The challenging Boddawara Shivalingapuram section, which has condolite rocks and sandstone soil, underlines the complexity of the project. The initiative is designed to enhance the speed and efficiency of railway operations in the region, providing critical infrastructure for future transport needs. The DRM was accompanied by ADRM Sudhir Gupta, Deputy Chief Engineer Rajeev Kumar and other divisional officials. The team monitored close coordination between construction and departmental officials, which streamlined operations and expedited the construction of tunnels on KK Line. 96.45 km of the 189 km long Koraput Kothavalasa section has been completed and with the commissioning of Gorpur-Darliput section by August 15, 100 km of doubling is likely to be completed in this part of KK Line. Close coordination between construction and departmental officials, streamlining operations to handle goods traffic as well as providing adequate blocks for blasting have expedited the construction of tunnels along KK Line.
