Visakhapatnam: Police on Monday arrested 11 people allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a minor girl.
The alleged rape of the girl sparked a stir as she had complained that 10 men sexually assaulted her between December 18 and 22. Based on her complaint, the police registered a POCSO case with the Ivy-Town police.
DCP-1 Srinivas Rao said all the accused have been arrested in and around the city and teams have been sent to Jharkhand to nab two more accused. Seven teams were formed to investigate the matter.
It is noteworthy that the girl’s parents had lodged a complaint that their daughter was missing since December 18. Police traced the minor girl to her native village in Kalahandi district of Odisha. After the girl was rescued, she reportedly informed her parents about being raped. Subsequently, a fresh case was registered under the POCSO Act. The DCP said that they will take the case in fast-track mode and complete the investigation in four months.
State Women’s Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma took note of the incident and wrote a letter to the Police Commissioner urging him to thoroughly investigate the matter.
