Villager murdered in Kendrapara following a dispute; attacked with wooden planks and bricks; accused arrested.

Odisha: A dispute in a village in Kendrapara district turned violent, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old man. The incident occurred late Tuesday night in Ramnagar village, under the jurisdiction of the Jambu Marine Police Station in Mahakalpada block. The incident sent shockwaves through the area, and the police have initiated an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Tapan Das (50), a resident of Ramnagar village. The police have arrested the accused, Sanjay Mandal, who also hails from the same village. Preliminary investigations reveal that a minor verbal altercation escalated into a fatal attack.

According to reports, around 11 PM on Tuesday, Sanjay Mandal was allegedly creating a ruckus in the village and using abusive language. Observing this behavior, Tapan Das intervened and advised him to calm down. This led to an argument between the two.

The dispute quickly escalated; an enraged Sanjay Mandal attacked Tapan Das. It is reported that a wooden plank and a brick were used in the assault. Tapan Das sustained severe head injuries during the attack.

Following the incident, villagers rushed the injured Tapan Das to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. According to the medical team, he died due to excessive blood loss and severe head injuries.

Tension has gripped the village following the incident. Locals are shocked by the sudden attack, and an atmosphere of panic prevails. Villagers expressed disbelief that a minor dispute could escalate to such a tragic extent.

Upon learning of the incident, the deceased’s wife, Nilu Das, lodged a written complaint at the Jambu Marine Police Station, accusing the assailant of a fatal attack. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police took the accused, Sanjay Mandal, into custody. Police officials stated that the accused is being interrogated and all aspects of the incident are being investigated. Preliminary questioning suggests the attack was committed in a fit of rage during a dispute, though the police are verifying all the facts.

The local administration has appealed for peace in the village, and additional police forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. The police also mentioned that statements from witnesses are being recorded and the crime scene is being examined.

Villagers describe the deceased, Tapan Das, as a mild-mannered man who often helped resolve local disputes. On the day of the incident, too, he had attempted to calm the situation, but the matter took a tragic turn.

The police state that while the incident clearly stemmed from a mutual dispute, the case is being treated with great seriousness given the weapon used and the severity of the attack. A murder case has been registered against the accused, and further action is underway.

Currently, the police are investigating whether the accused was under the influence of intoxicants or suffering from mental stress at the time. They are also trying to identify who else was present in the village during the incident and whether anyone else played a role in it.

Following the incident, the family members are inconsolable, and a pall of gloom has descended upon the village. Villagers have demanded strict action from the administration to prevent such incidents in the future.
