VietJet fined $180 million

World World: Vietnam’s budget airline VietJet has been ordered by London’s High Court to pay more than $180 million in a lease dispute over four Airbus A321 planes. The case is linked to a petition filed by FW Aviation, which accused the airline of not paying leases after the planes were grounded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FW Aviation had previously taken possession of the planes and demanded payment under the lease agreement, which was cancelled due to non-payment of lease. VietJet said it would be unfair to pay twice for the planes. However, the court ruled that VietJet must pay FW Aviation $181.8 million. The airline plans to appeal the decision next month.
