Vadodara: 130 days’ remuneration paid to the permanent employees of the State Health Department, but anger over non-payment to contract workers

During the Corona epidemic, permanent employees across the state have been given additional remuneration of 130 days for doing duty on holidays. But even though the contract employees of the health department have worked on holidays during the Corona period, no separate remuneration has been given to such employees by the state government. Due to which there is resentment among thousands of employees of such technical and non-technical contracts.

Separate remuneration of contract employees has not been paid till date

Along with this, written information has also been given to the Mission Director (NHM) by the Chief District Health Officer from all the districts. However, this question has not been resolved till date.

More than 70 percent of the employees did extra work during the Corona period

It is an indisputable fact that if the contractual employees had not joined shoulder to shoulder with the permanent employees during the Corona period, the condition of the administration would have deteriorated. However, permanent employees have been given an honorarium of 130 days for doing duty during the Corona period. But in this case, thousands of contract workers of the health department are indignant when the government’s discriminatory policy of not giving any remuneration to thousands of contract workers was exposed.

Fury prevails among contract workers

It is noteworthy that the number of contractual employees is likely to be much higher in comparison to permanent employees in all the departments of the state. There is a general feeling and demand of the contract employees that all the rights which are available or given to the permanent employees should be given to the contract employees according to their salary. The government had made a written recommendation for salary allowance to the permanent employees, but there is anger among the contract employees for not recommending the contract employees.

Recommend in writing to the Deputy Secretary for certain cadres

The Additional Director of the State Government has recommended in writing to the Deputy Secretary for certain cadres, in which regular or permanent employees have been recommended to receive 130 days leave salary in addition to the higher monthly allowance during the last Corona period, but Thousands of contractual employees have not been recommended to give more monthly allowance or 130 days fixed pay leave, which has exposed the double policy of the Health Department. However, no recommendation has been made by any higher level authority regarding additional allowance for contract employees or payment for work done on holidays. There is anger among the contract employees for not solving the problems of the contract employees.
