Tamil Nadu: The second phase of safety inspections for the Vadapalani-Poonamallee Metro Rail operation was completed on Wednesday. Following this, officials held consultations regarding train operations.
In the first phase, the Chennai Metro Rail is operating on two routes, from the Central Railway Station to Meenambakkam Airport.
Construction on the second phase of the metro rail line is underway. A fourth line, with track and stations, is being built from Marina Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass.
On that route, from Vadapalani to Poonamallee Bypass, 14.64 km of track and railway station work have been completed. Safety inspections for train operations were conducted on February 11 and 12. A team from Bangalore, led by Railway Safety Commissioner Madhukar Chaudhary, conducted the inspection. Following this, the second phase of safety inspections began on Tuesday (February 24). Officials said that test trains will be run at a set speed. Following the inspection, Railway Safety Commissioner Madhukar Chaudhary held a meeting with officials, including Metro Rail Corporation directors, on Wednesday (February 25). Officials stated that the feasibility of running the train and the final stages of work were discussed.
Officials stated that with the safety inspection certificate being issued soon, the train will begin running within a week or two.
