UP Roadways will run electric buses

Lucknow (IANS) | The government is focusing on the operation of electric vehicles for the protection of the environment along with the provision of smooth transport for the citizens of UP. Hundreds of electric buses are already being operated in the urban areas of the state through the Urban Development Department, while now the Yogi Government has decided to operate electric buses on selected routes through the Transport Department as well. As a pilot project, there is currently a plan to run 100 electric buses on select routes in Lucknow and Ghaziabad. Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh said that the Transport Corporation has plans to run 100 electric buses on select routes in Lucknow and Ghaziabad. In the first phase, these buses will be run on a pilot basis. Later it will be started in other districts of the state as well.

The Transport Minister said that very soon the best and cheap transport service will be available to the people of the state. Till now two times two seating arrangement buses were approved for AC buses, but now three times seating arrangement bus service is planned to be contracted under the new contract bus scheme. He said that the fare for buses with three times the seating capacity would be Rs 1.63 per km, while the fare for double seating arrangement buses would be Rs 1.93 per km. This will make a total difference of 30 paise per km and affordable AC bus service will be available to the people. The Transport Minister informed that a total of 1235 buses, including ordinary and AC buses, have been issued letters of intent, out of which 770 buses have started operating in the areas.
