Bahraich: An eight-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in the Sujauli area of Vida Sylvester Katarniaghat sanctuary when she was in the field with her father, a forest department official said on Saturday. Divisional Forest Officer B. Shiv Shankar said that Ayesha, a resident of Ayodhyapurwa village under Police Commissionerate Sujauli, was killed by a leopard on Friday afternoon. Hearing his scream, the villagers raised an alarm and the leopard disappeared. But by then the girl had died, the officer said. Forest department officials reached there along with forest personnel and special forces for tiger protection and found the mutilated body of the girl, which was handed over to the police. Immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 has been provided to the family of the deceased. The government will provide financial assistance after completing the protocols, an official said. DFO said that to prevent incidents of conflict between humans and wildlife, people of the Forest Department and voluntary organizations are making the villagers aware.
