Raipur: Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil lauded Chhattisgarh’s water conservation initiatives, highlighting its pioneering role in sustainable water management at the Second National Conference of State Water Ministers in Udaipur, Rajasthan. He acknowledged the state’s innovative and community-driven efforts, stating that Chhattisgarh has set an exemplary model for the nation in water resource management.
Union Minister Shri C R Patil noted that over 2,29,000 water conservation structures have been developed across Chhattisgarh, significantly enhancing groundwater recharge, irrigation capacity, and climate resilience. He emphasized that Chhattisgarh’s participatory water conservation model should serve as an inspiration for other states, reinforcing the national agenda for Water Vision 2047.
Chhattisgarh’s Commitment to Water Conservation and Sustainable Development
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his pride in the national recognition of Chhattisgarh’s efforts, affirming that the state government’s policies are deeply aligned with water conservation and sustainable development. “Ensuring water security for future generations remains a top priority, and Chhattisgarh is committed to advancing scientific and community-driven solutions for water resource management,” he stated.
At the conference, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao and Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap represented Chhattisgarh, presenting the state’s comprehensive water conservation strategy.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao underscored the importance of grassroots participation, stating that water conservation in Chhattisgarh has evolved beyond government programs into a people’s movement, with active engagement from rural and urban communities. He emphasized that this collaborative approach has significantly improved water availability and strengthened the state’s agricultural and economic resilience.
Strategic Focus on Irrigation and Water Security
Addressing the gathering, Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap highlighted the state’s commitment to expanding irrigation capacity and constructing permanent water retention structures. He emphasized that small irrigation projects, micro-watershed programs, and advanced hydrological planning have led to a measurable increase in groundwater levels and have ensured year-round water availability for farmers.
Chhattisgarh’s Model – A Benchmark for National Water Policies
Union Minister Shri C.R. Patil reiterated that Chhattisgarh’s holistic approach to water conservation is not only preserving natural resources but also boosting the rural economy, enhancing agricultural productivity, and reinforcing climate adaptation strategies. He urged other states to adopt Chhattisgarh’s water management practices, integrating scientific planning, policy innovation, and community participation into their water conservation strategies. Union Minister also assured that the Central Government would continue to support and collaborate with the Chhattisgarh Government to further enhance its sustainable water management initiatives, ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of India’s water conservation movement.
