Unemployment rate remained stable at 5.6% in June, but increased among youth

Business Business: India’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.6 percent in June, according to data released by the government. Although the overall figures show stability, the unemployment burden among the youth remains disproportionately higher.
The female unemployment rate declined marginally to 5.6 percent from 5.7 percent in May. However, the male unemployment rate remained stable at 5.6 percent.
The decrease in the unemployment rate for both male and female in rural areas is due to an increase in the number of own-account workers and a decrease in the number of unemployed persons in June 2025 compared to May 2025, the press release said.
The highest stress was observed among youth in the 15-29 age group, where the unemployment rate increased from 15 percent in May to 15.3 percent in June.
