Durg. An undertrial prisoner lodged in the Central Jail died during treatment at Mekahara Hospital. Three days ago, when the prisoner was admitted to the hospital, his family members created a ruckus and pelted stones at the police post, alleging assault. Now, after the death of the prisoner, the police have called the assault completely misleading, baseless and unfounded and have talked about a magisterial probe.
It may be noted that three days ago, accused Pintu Netam, who was sent to jail about a month ago in a robbery case, was admitted to the hospital after his health deteriorated. Angered by this, the people of Dera Basti created a ruckus at the Smriti Nagar police post, accusing the police of assault and pelted stones at the policemen. Many policemen were injured in the incident. Ultimately, the police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd.
After the death of the prisoner, CSP Satya Prakash said that in the robbery case at the Smritinagar Chowki under Supela police station, accused Pintu Netam, resident of Faridnagar Dera, was arrested along with two other accused on October 18 and sent to jail on judicial remand. Accused Pintu Netam was imprisoned in Central Jail Durg from 18-10-24. On November 15, about 28 days after his arrest, he was suddenly admitted to Durg District Hospital for treatment when his blood pressure fell.
