Ukraine-Russia Talks in Abu Dhabi, No Breakthrough Yet

The Russia-Ukraine war, which began almost four years ago, is still ongoing. The efforts of various heads of state, including US President Trump, to end this war have not been fruitful. In this context, peace talks are currently underway between the two countries once again. Representatives of the two countries are holding talks in Abu Dhabi. Ukraine has agreed to these peace talks under US pressure.

US President Trump is determined to end the Russia-Ukraine war by any means. That is why the US has taken these measures. It is known that this war began in February 2022. The two countries are still attacking each other. However, Russia has the upper hand. Russia has attacked key locations, including Ukrainian power plants. This has plunged Ukraine into a deep crisis. However, it continues to fight Russia. Now, the US is mediating in the latest peace talks. Ukrainian President Zelensky spoke about this. He said that ending the war is in Russia’s hands. Because it was Russia that started the war, he reminded us. He said that he is constantly in touch with the team negotiating on behalf of his country, but he cannot say anything on this matter. He said that there is a possibility of clarity on this by tomorrow. Trump recently met Zelensky at the World Economic Forum in Davos. There, Trump suggested to him about the peace talks.

Zelensky wants Europe to guarantee his country’s security during peace talks. Russia, however, is taking a cautious approach to a peace deal. Russian President Putin wants to keep the Donetsk region, a key region in Ukraine, under his control. But Zelensky is not agreeing to this. This area is about 5,000 square kilometers.
