Udhayanidhi Stalin gets bail from court in Sanatan Dharma comment case

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Special Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin with a bond of Rs 1 lakh. He appeared in court in connection with a case registered over comments on Sanatan Dharma. The court had ordered Udhayanidhi Stalin to appear on the basis of a complaint filed by social activist V. Paramesha regarding derogatory remarks on Sanatan Dharma.

Udhayanidhi Stalin Udhayanidhi Stalin appeared in court on Tuesday morning. The court has also exempted Udhayanidhi Stalin from appearing in further proceedings of the case. The Supreme Court is also looking into the matter. Therefore, the special court adjourned the hearing of the case till August 8. The complainant claimed that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments insulted him, his religion and the people of Hinduism.

The court had taken cognizance of offences under sections 153A, 298 and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Udhayanidhi Stalin had addressed a conference in September 2023. During this, he had said that Sanatan Dharma is against social justice and equality and it should be ‘eradicated’. His statement had created a national controversy.
