Imphal: A joint team of the Assam Rifles, women police personnel and Manipur Police commandos arrested two alleged women insurgents and rescued three kidnapped girls in multiple operations conducted at three locations in Manipur’s Thoubal, Kakching and Imphal West districts on Tuesday.
Some incriminating documents and a white Maruti 800 bearing registration number MN-06-1329, which was allegedly used in the kidnapping, were recovered, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrested female cadres, belonging to the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), were identified as Khundrakpam (o) Ningthoujam Roshidiya (24) of Khangabok Khulakpam Leikai in Thoubal district, and Lisham (o) Bidya (30) of Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai in the same district.
The duo was arrested from an area in Khangabok in Thoubal district. Their arrest followed an investigation into the abduction of three minors on the previous day from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai under Waikhong police station in Kakching district.
Police said the girls were abducted for alleged recruitment into the outlawed PREPAK. They were later rescued from Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district and handed over to their respective parents. Efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices of the arrested PREPAK cadres. The identities of the rescued girls were withheld under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, police added.
Police further said that the arrested accused, along with the seized items, were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
