Two killed, 10 injured as van overturns in Odisha

Jeypore: Two people were killed and 10 others seriously injured when a van carrying members of a wedding party overturned near Khatalapadar bridge within Kundra police limits in Koraput district on Sunday.

Police have identified the deceased as Chuti Baliya (61) and Lachhama Rampuriya (18) of Dhalpur village in Boipariguda.
Sources said at least 40 people from the bride’s side had left Dhalpur village in a van to attend the wedding ceremony at Nuagaon in Kotpad block. The van driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling on a winding road, near Khatalapadar bridge. After this the van overturned and fell into a ditch on the roadside.

Chuti and Lachhama died instantly, while 10 were seriously injured. On receiving information, police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and with the help of local people rescued the passengers trapped in the van.
The injured persons have been admitted to District Headquarters Hospital, Jeypore and Shaheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital, Koraput. Kundra police have registered the case and further investigation is underway.
