Two passengers, including a woman, have been detained at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport for traveling on forged travel documents. Both of them were deported by immigration officials in Dubai after being refused entry. The youth has been identified as Manjinder Singh, resident of Variyam Nangal and the woman is from Ajnala. Both had gone to Dubai on Indian passports.
When immigration officials in Dubai checked his documents, they found something suspicious. Immigration officials did not allow them to enter Dubai and sent them back to India on Qatar Airways.
The accused allegedly tampered with the passport by editing the name on someone else’s passport. With these tampered passports, they managed to travel to Dubai, but immigration officials found that the passports were not in good order.
Both the accused have been taken into custody by the authorities after being deported to India. The documents of both are also being examined. Both were handed over to Amritsar Police after questioning by Indian immigration officials. Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and they will register a case against them under the Passport Act and take action accordingly.
