Kochi (IANS) | The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested two officials of the Customs on Thursday. The arrest has been made for allegedly helping in the smuggling of gold through Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The two officers — Anish Mohammed and Nitin — attached to the Custom Air Intelligence Unit were asked to report to their office and arrested. He was later produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody till June 29.
While keeping a close vigil at Thiruvananthapuram airport, DRI officials found audio clips of some officials. In which it has been revealed how they were allegedly helping gold smugglers through the airport.
When a special squad of DRI detained an international passenger recently cleared by Customs, he was found to be carrying gold with him. It was in the investigation conducted by the DRI that the Customs officials were allegedly helping the smugglers.
