Turkish airstrikes kill three Yazidi fighters in Iraq
Baghdad (IANS) | Three Yazidi fighters belonging to Turkey’s Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed and a fourth wounded in a Turkish airstrike in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh. A Turkish aircraft bombed the headquarters of a Yazidi militia, known as the Sinjar Protection Units (YBS), near the city of Sinjar, about 120 km west of Mosul, the provincial capital of Nineveh, killing three militiamen and one got injured.
YBS is a Yazidi militia, formed in 2007 to protect the Yazidi community in Iraq. The group has strong ties to the PKK group, Xinhua news agency reported.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the US and the European Union.
