Sudip Bandyopadhyay visits Delhi amid turmoil in TMC, political activities intensify

West Bengal: Political activity intensified last week following reports of internal dissent and political maneuvering within the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Speculation mounted regarding the Delhi visit and political contacts of senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

According to sources, when a team from the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the residence of TMC chief and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, she reached out to her close associates. This prompted discussions and dialogue regarding the situation within the party.

Amidst these developments, Mamata Banerjee reportedly attempted to contact her trusted aide, Sudip Bandyopadhyay. In response, an associate stated that he was sending his wife, TMC MLA Naina Bandyopadhyay, instead. A few days later, as internal dissent grew, Mamata Banerjee inquired about Sudip Bandyopadhyay’s whereabouts from Naina Bandyopadhyay, only to be told that there was no clear information regarding his current status.

Meanwhile, Sudip Bandyopadhyay had arrived in Delhi, where reports emerged of several key political meetings. Sources indicate that he met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a meeting that sparked widespread speculation in political circles.

Subsequently, Sudip Bandyopadhyay joined a group of 19 MPs for a meeting at the residence of Bhupender Yadav, the BJP’s Bengal in-charge and Union Environment Minister. Various political issues and future strategies were deliberated upon during this meeting.

According to reports, an agreement regarding a political alliance with a lesser-known regional party from Tripura was also signed during the meeting. Political analysts believe this development could signal the emergence of new political equations in West Bengal.

The ongoing turmoil within the TMC and the heightened activity of its leaders in Delhi have ignited a fresh debate in state politics. Opposition parties have also begun to react to these developments, viewing them as a political realignment.

While there has been no official statement from the party regarding these events so far, political circles consider this a significant development. It will be crucial to observe in the coming days how this impacts West Bengal politics and the internal dynamics of the TMC.
