Washington: Former US President Donald Trump on Saturday won Missouri’s Republican presidential caucus and continued his journey towards the GOP nomination. Trump’s victory over former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley in the Midwestern state is another good news for the former president, who previously won in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. In Michigan, a key state, Trump won the Republican primary on Tuesday, winning more than 68 percent of the vote, Xinhua news agency reported. On Saturday, he received the support of more delegates during the Republican convention, sealing his victory in the northern state. Trump has collected more than 100 delegates so far. To win the Republican presidential nomination he would need to gain the support of at least 1,215 delegates.
The day of the presidential primary cycle when most states vote, Super Tuesday, is approaching. This year’s Super Tuesday is March 5, when about 15 states will vote. The U.S. presidential primaries, lasting through June, are preceded by the Republican National Convention in July, where the party’s presidential nominee is officially chosen by delegates, followed by the Democratic National Convention in August. The 2024 presidential election will be held on November 5.
