To decongest the state capital and ease traffic, a transport city will soon be established outside Shimla. Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced this while chairing a meeting here today regarding the shifting of the vegetable market, grain market, and wood market outside Shimla and the establishment of a transport city.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the administration has taken steps to shift large markets and motor markets from the city, and work is underway.
He said that a joint inspection of approximately 300 bighas of land proposed for this purpose was conducted today near Mehli. The Deputy Commissioner stated that officials from the Revenue Department, Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), Transport Department, Municipal Corporation, and Public Works Department also participated in the inspection.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of vehicles in Shimla, the Deputy Commissioner stated that maintaining smooth traffic flow is a major challenge due to the increased traffic pressure in various markets. Therefore, some markets need to be relocated to reduce congestion in the city and its roads. Kashyap said, “To address this challenge effectively, plans are underway to relocate major markets outside the city and build a transport city outside Shimla.” He added, “The proposed 300 bighas of land is ideal for relocating these markets and building a transport city. Furthermore, this land is near the under-construction Mehli-Shoghi four-lane road, which will provide better transportation facilities to the public and commission agents.”
