Chennai (IANS) | A suburban train going from Moor Market in Chennai to Tiruvallur derailed at Vyasarpadi railway station in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Officials said that no one was injured in the incident. The accident took place when the train was passing through Basin Bridge and Vyasarpadi railway station.
Southern Railway sources told IANS that the second coach of the electrical multiple unit derailed.
Chennai Central station staff rushed to the spot and started repairing the track and coaches. Many people got off the train and walked out of the station to the nearest bus stand.
Southern Railway sources told IANS that train services in Tiruvallur and Avadi sections were suspended for a few hours following the derailment. Some trains were also stopped at Perambur and Villikavakkam stations.
This is the third incident of train derailment in a week. An empty coach of Jan Shatabdi train derailed near Basin Bridge on June 9 when it was being taken to the yard for cleaning.
Earlier on June 8, the fourth coach of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway train going from Mettupalayam to Coonoor derailed. However, no one was injured in this incident.
