Jeypore: In a tragic incident, a mother and son have ben electrocuted to death in Jeypore of Koraput district in Odisha, said reports on Friday.
According to reports, the mother was allegedly electrocuted as she rushed to save her son as he came in contact with a live electric wire. The incident has been reported from Jayantigir area of Jeypore. The son allegedly came in contact with the live wire while he was drying clothes.
Seen the son being electrocuted, the mother rushed in to save him but she also got electrocuted and became critically injured. The family members rushed both of them to the nearby hospital where the doctor declared them brought dead. A pall of gloom has descended on the area following the tragic incident.
Recently on July 16, at least five people had been arrested in connection with electrocution incident during Ramayana stage show in Odisha’s Ganjam district which left 19 children critically injured. The incident occurred in Phasiguda village in Digapahandi Tehsil of the district.
According to the sources, the arrested individuals have been identified as Sibaram Bishoi, Rajendra Dora, Sibram Behera, Rabindra Kumar Sahu and Bijaya Kumar Raul. Along with arresting the accused, the police have also seized all the electronic equipment including DJ box and a vehicle used during the Ramayana stage show.
It is worth mentioning here that the villagers had organised the show in view of the inauguration of the village temple. However, some parts of the area near the stage reported got charged, following which at least 10 children sustained critical burn injuries.
All of them, who are between 7 and 12 years of age, were rushed to the Digapahandi hospital for treatment. Later, four of them were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
