Tourism businessmen of District Kullu have been demanding the expansion of the airport for a long time and now necessary approvals have been received under the Forest Conservation Act for the expansion of this airport. After getting the approval, further work can be done in view of the standards and extended security measures set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Now getting approval under the Forest Conservation Act, the expansion of the airport will also accelerate.
With the expansion of the airport, big airplanes will also be able to accommodate here easily. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that forest clearance has been received for the expansion of Bhuntar Airport. This has paved the way for the expansion of this airstrip, which is important as the gateway to the picturesque valleys of Kullu Valley. He said that after ensuring the necessary approvals under the Forest (Conservation) Act for the expansion of this project, the work of expansion of the airport can now begin. These approvals were necessary in view of the regulatory standards and extended security measures set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The Chief Minister said that Bhuntar Airport has an important role in promoting tourism activities in Kullu Valley. He said that direct flights have now been started from Amritsar to Kullu.
In such a situation, passengers from India and abroad will benefit from the expansion of this airport. Sukhu said that the state government is determined to promote tourism activities in the state and with an increase of Rs 50 crore, the present government has allocated a budget of Rs 3,000 crore for the tourism sector. He said that after horticulture and hydropower, tourism sector is the backbone of the economy of Himachal and thousands of families are associated with this major sector. This is why the state government is taking every possible step to promote tourism activities. Under this, by strengthening the infrastructure, excellent facilities are being provided to the tourists to make their visit and stay in the state memorable. The Chief Minister said that the state government has set a target of attracting five crore tourists every year in Himachal. Effective steps are being taken by the state government in this direction.
