Hyderabad: Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said Telangana, which is blessed with natural beauty, will be made a destination wedding hub.
Speaking at an event organised by the Telangana Chamber of Events Industry (TCEI) on Sunday, Krishna Rao said Telangana is a destination for weddings but these functions are held only in function halls, convention centres and resorts in and around Hyderabad.
He said there are many beautiful places apart from Hyderabad, which have abundant resources and are of historical significance. To name one of them, the area around the Nagarjunasagar reservoir amid green hills is an ideal place for destination weddings. Similarly, the Somasila backwater in Kollapur on the banks of the Krishna river is also beneficial in terms of infrastructure, Krishna Rao said. There is just a need to make people aware about these places.
Emphasising the state government’s aim to make Telangana a global tourism hub under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he said the government is focusing its attention on various sectors including medical, adventure, spiritual and eco tourism. He said steps are being taken to attract investors to develop tourism areas through public-private partnership (PPP) to promote destination weddings.
Krishna Rao said the development of the tourism department will generate more income and employment opportunities for the youth.
Explaining the importance of such events, the minister said such events will help strengthen Telangana’s position as a destination wedding hub and a major destination for tourism.
Tourism Development Corporation MD Ramesh Naidu, TCEI tourism director, chairman Alla Balaram Babu, Hi Tex chief Srikanth, SIWPC convener Hirish Reddy, Kumar Raja, Dr. Saurabh Surekha, Sudhakar Yarabadi and others were part of the event.
