TIRUCHY: Transport workers in Thanjavur file fraud complaint against driver

Tiruchi: A group of transport employees from Thanjavur on Thursday lodged a complaint against a TNSTC bus driver who is accused of committing fraud by obtaining loans with the guarantor signatures of about 100 transport employees. Boopathy, a driver attached to the Thanjavur TNSTC depot, had obtained guarantor signatures of about 100 employees and promised to get them loans from private financial firms. Following this, Boopathy obtained loans of about Rs 25 lakh in the name of himself, his mother Vijaya, wife Helen Rose and his brother-in-law Anthony Samy.

After obtaining the loans, Boopathy did not pay the EMIs and so the private firms approached the concerned transport employees and asked them to repay the dues or face legal action. After a few days, the transport employees also received legal notices to settle the ‘borrowed’ money. The shocked employees confronted Boopathy, but he did not respond immediately and absconded. Recently, the court directed the Kumbakonam divisional TNSTC to adjust their salaries with the arrears. On Thursday, a group of transport employees filed a complaint against Boopathy before the Thanjavur SP and appealed for action.
