Bhubaneswar: A three-year-old tigress gave birth to triplets at the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here. However, only one of the newborns survived.
Zoo officials said that the births on Saturday were tigress Jayshree’s first cubs after a 101-day gestation period. She mated with tiger Amit between September 15 and 17, 2025.
They said that since it was her first delivery, the tigress reportedly lacked maternal instinct, which may have affected her ability to care for the cubs.
The first cub was born at 11:55 am, but Jayshree was unable to see it, and zoo staff shifted the newborn to the NCU, where it is under constant observation.
