Kanpur: Three members of a family died of suffocation after poisonous smoke emanated from an earthen oven (angithi) in a closed room, officials said. Juhi area of Kanpur district. According to sources, when they were sleeping late on Sunday night, smoke from the clay stove accumulated in the closed room.
Speaking to ANI, South Kanpur Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravindra Kumar said, “The victims were found sleeping, with flames still burning inside the fireplace.
“It is possible that they may have decided not to fire the oven to extinguish the fire.” Warmed myself amidst the bitter cold. However, it appears that he inhaled poisonous smoke from the fireplace and died of suffocation. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the family members closed the doors and windows tightly, causing excessive smoke to accumulate in the room.” He said, “It is unfortunate that three people lost their lives in this incident.
“It seems as if all three members died in their sleep.” A police team led by DCP, South Kanpur surveyed the spot and was seen collecting evidence. “Two other family members, who survived, were admitted to the hospital,” the DCP said. Senior police officers are involved in the ongoing investigation of this incident. “The police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. More information is awaited.
