Three people died of electrocution during preparations for ‘Danda Nacha’ in Dhenkanal.

Odisha: In a tragic incident, three people were killed and two seriously injured after coming into contact with an 11 kV power line in Dhenkanal district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Milan Mahalik (34) and Laxmidhar Sahu (24) of Bido village, and Sudhakar Sahu (40) of Patala village.

The accident occurred in Patala village under the Balimi police limits when preparations were underway for the traditional Danda Nacha festival. According to reports, a steel bar being used to erect a tent accidentally touched an overhead 11 kV power line, causing a severe electric shock.

A total of five people involved in the preparations were seriously injured in the incident. They were immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Angul for treatment.

However, doctors declared three of them dead.

Another injured, identified as Prafulla Tarai and Nirmala Sahu of Patala village, are currently undergoing treatment and are said to be in critical condition. According to the latest reports, both critically injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, and local authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the cause of the tragic incident.
