Chennai (IANS) | Three people died and 11 others were hospitalized after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Viluppuram. The incident is of Ekkiyarkupam’s fisherman colony.
A group of people consumed country liquor during an event on Saturday evening. Police said that those who had consumed liquor started vomiting till late night. Three people died in the early hours of Sunday at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).
The deceased have been identified as Shankar (50), Suresh (60) and Daranivel (50). Another 15 people were admitted to the same hospital on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Viluppuram district superintendent of police N. Srinath told IANS that the police had started an investigation after receiving information about people vomiting after drinking country liquor.
He told that some people are being interrogated in connection with the incident by taking them into custody.
Police are conducting raids in some villages in Marakkanam area near Ekkiyarkupam.
