In a tragic incident, three class-VI students were killed after being hit by a speeding car near Saradhapalli chhak on Sonepur-Binika road on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Subrat Bhoi, Rajesh Pera and Raja Pera. They were studying in class 6 of Sardhapali Government Primary School.
According to sources, the accident took place when the trio was returning from school after writing their annual examination.
A speeding car heading towards Binika hit the students near Saradhapalli chhak causing death of a student on the spot and leaving two others critically injured, sources said.
The two injured students were immediately rushed to the Sonepur hospital where one succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
When the health condition of the third student deteriorated, he was shifted to Burla hospital. However, he too died while on his way to the hospital, sources informed.
Meanwhile, the irate villagers have blocked the Sonepur-Binika road affecting vehicular movement on the route. The locals have overpowered the driver of the speeding car and handed him over to the police.
Apprehending further tension, police forces have been deployed at the spot while an investigation into the matter has been launched to ascertain on what circumstances the accident took place resulting in death of three students.
