There has been no improvement in the livelihood of farmers: Kisan Sangh

Tamil Nadu : The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association has said that the agricultural growth rate of Tamil Nadu has increased from 1.36 percent to 5.66 percent, but the income of farmers has not increased accordingly. In this regard, the association’s president S. Gunasekaran and general secretary P.S. Masilamani issued a statement on Thursday: The Tamil Nadu government has released a report on Tamil Nadu’s agricultural growth in the last 5 years. At the same time, the report released by the Statistics and Enforcement Department of the Central Government states that Tamil Nadu’s agriculture has declined by 0.09 percent. This is contradictory. Despite the central government not providing much financial assistance, the Tamil Nadu government has made an additional allocation of Rs 1,94,076 crore in 5 agricultural budgets. Accordingly, the agricultural growth rate has increased from 1.36 percent to 5.66 percent now. But, the income of farmers has not increased in accordance with this increase. Many reports of the state government are not acceptable. If there is development in the agricultural sector, then the income of farmers should also increase in the same proportion. But this has not happened in Tamil Nadu. If paddy was given a price of Rs 3000 per quintal, sugarcane Rs 4500 per ton, the government bought the agricultural products being thrown on the roads and getting wasted and took steps to increase the livelihood of the farmers, which also includes getting a profitable price for the produce, then this would have been an achievement. He has said that the Tamil Nadu government should bring these in front of the farmers in the form of an action plan.
