New Delhi: Water is life and is more beneficial than any energy drink. Wise meditators and elders have often said this. But it is also true that excess of everything is bad. Similarly, over-hydrating yourself can also cause trouble. There are some warning signs, if you keep an eye on them, you can avoid overdose (even of water). We are constantly reminded about the benefits of staying hydrated, but drinking enough water can be difficult. But then how do you know that you are inviting trouble by drinking more water than you need?
Drinking too much water can cause mild and slightly annoying life-threatening symptoms. Drinking too much water is life-threatening, especially when there is a deficiency of key electrolytes.
Nutritionist Riddhi Khanna says, “Drinking too much water can lead to hyponatremia, which causes a dangerous drop in sodium levels in the blood.” Sodium is an important electrolyte that acts as the body’s traffic guard. It controls where water is distributed throughout the body and how much is sent to the bladder. Water intoxication is relatively uncommon, but it can happen when you drink more than what your body can excrete.
Excessive water consumption can be detected in a very easy way. There are four main ways. In this, the color of the urine becomes very clear. Actually, the color of urine is light yellow due to urochrome and if it is not so then it is a warning sign. Apart from this, going to the washroom more than 6 to 8 times a day also alerts you.
If you drink too much water, then the stomach remains bloated and nausea occurs. If you go beyond this, then headache occurs and you may have to go through a state of brain fog. That is because the sodium level decreases slightly, due to which the cells swell. There is almost no space for the cells to expand. This creates pressure, which leads to headache. So these are the warning signs that tell you without going to the doctor that this is the time to be careful. Be careful and avoid excessive water consumption.
