Durg. The relationship of husband and wife is not just a bond of seven vows, but a lifelong companionship. When this relationship collides with circumstances and compulsions, sometimes it stays together till death. Something similar has happened in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. The wife also died on the second day of her husband’s death.
In fact, Tilak Kurre (50), a resident of Sikola Basti Jaitkham, was a painter. His wife Sheetal (40) used to help run the family by working as a laborer. The family was already struggling with financial crisis. Their elder son (24) has been in jail for 15 days in a case of assault. The younger son (17) was somehow managing the household expenses.
Meanwhile, Sheetal had to be admitted to the hospital due to intestinal disease. She underwent a major operation, in which 10 units of blood were transfused. The operation was successful, but the hospital expenses worsened the financial condition of the family. According to former ward councilor Usha Thakur, the electricity of the house had been cut off. The entire responsibility had fallen on the minor son. Broken by these circumstances, Tilak committed suicide by hanging himself at home on 31st August at 4 pm. But the family did not inform Sheetal about her husband’s death. But coincidentally, Sheetal’s condition started deteriorating in the hospital just an hour later. Despite the efforts of the doctors, Sheetal also died at 5 am on 1st September. Now both their children are alone. One is in jail and the other is a minor. The people in the neighbourhood say that this couple stayed together for life and even death could not keep them apart for long.
