Madhya Pradesh: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Singh Rajput has announced that the government has decided to make public the names of those receiving free rations.
Speaking at a press conference in Bhopal on Wednesday, he said that to ensure transparency regarding the beneficiaries of free rations, the names of recipients will be read out twice a year in Gram Sabhas (village assemblies). He described this as a social audit model that will ensure accountability at the village level.
According to Rajput, there will be provisions for nominees to collect rations on behalf of the elderly and disabled, who often face difficulties in receiving their rations due to verification issues. Therefore, such beneficiaries can nominate someone to collect the rations on their behalf, Rajput said. The minister added that general merchandise and other essential items will also be available at ration shops, and these shops are being developed as Chief Minister’s Nutrition Marts.
He said that all daily necessities will be available at a single location, and an app is being developed for ration distribution. He added that customers will receive an SMS notification whenever a ration delivery truck arrives at a shop.
He stated that more than seven million people have completed their e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) verification, and the state government is committed to purchasing wheat from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The minister also mentioned that since many warehouses are lying vacant and their owners are facing financial difficulties, the government has decided to provide them with training on utilizing their warehouses for alternative purposes.
