The meeting of the District Execution Committee of Navbharat Sakshar Program was held on Wednesday in the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Collector Kamar Chaudhary. In the meeting, District Literacy and Continuing Education Officer Rajeev Sharma informed about the basic objective of the Navbharat Sakshar Program. Sharma said that under the literacy program, illiterates will not only be made literate but also digitally literate, under this, financial literacy related to critical life skills, legal literacy, family planning, disaster management, etc. will also be taught. Along with this, vocational education will also be provided to the illiterate for skill development. In the meeting, Sharma informed that 370 Mahatma Gandhi library reading rooms have been opened for the general public in the senior schools located at the Gram Panchayat headquarters, and books related to Gandhi’s life have been made available in these reading rooms.
In the meeting, District Collector Kamar Chaudhary instructed the Chief District Education Officer Govind Ram Mali that the head of the schools where vocational education classes are being conducted should provide vocational laboratory for teaching to the illiterates and instructed all block coordinators/chief block education officers. From time to time, he should also check the Mahatma Gandhi library reading room, whether it is being made available to the general public or not, as well as instructed all the district level officers to provide required cooperation in the literacy program.
