The Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh ordered an inquiry into the damage done to the idols of the Saptarishis.

Bhopal (IANS) | Four days after the idols of Saptarishis installed in Ujjain’s Mahakal Lok Corridor fell in a storm, the Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh has ordered an inquiry into the matter. An official told IANS that Lokayukta Justice N.K. Gupta has taken suo motu cognizance of the news published in the media regarding the incident.

A team of Lokayukta police will assess the spot and submit its report within the next two weeks, the official said.

The idols of the six Saptarishis had collapsed following which the opposition Congress criticized the ruling BJP alleging corruption in the Mahakal Lok Corridor project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year.

Senior Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma has claimed that the idols of the Saptarishis were made of Chinese mesh instead of iron structures and the other material used was also not of good quality.

Verma said on Wednesday, the color of the rest of the idols has also faded. The project had a provision to set up a laboratory to check the quality of the material used in making the idols, but it was not set up and the project was inaugurated.
