Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday pulled up the state government for not providing adequate infrastructure at RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences), the state’s largest government hospital in Ranchi. The court said that if the government cannot provide the necessary facilities and equipment in RIMS, then it should close it. While hearing a public interest petition, the court also made strong remarks about private hospitals.
Government Hospital The bench said in oral remarks that the government has repeatedly failed to fulfill its commitments. The court said, ‘The affidavits filed by the government and the claims of providing state-of-the-art facilities make it seem that we are in a foreign country, however, the reality is something else. The High Court said, ‘Due to lack of facilities in RIMS, patients are forced to go to private hospitals and nursing homes. Whereas most of these medical centers do not have the proper licenses required under the Clinical Establishment Act.’ Making a strong comment on private hospitals, the court said, ‘Private hospitals are involved in taking care of money instead of taking care of the health of patients.’
The court directed the government to file a fresh status report and tell what action has been taken against hospitals and nursing homes running without proper license. The matter will be heard again after 15 days.
A division bench of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay and Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava was hearing a PIL filed by Jyoti Sharma, alleging lack of infrastructure and facilities in RIMS. RIMS is an autonomous institution under the Jharkhand government.
