THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sabarimala Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru has been arrested in the Sabarimala gold theft case, which has been attracting attention across the country. Rajeevaru, who was thought to be only a witness in the case, has now been summoned for questioning by the Special Investigation Team and arrested.
The SIT had found that Unnikrishnan Potty and Tantri had close connections. The employees of Sabarimala had also given statements to the SIT that Tantri was behind Potty’s influence in the Sannidhanam. Tantri had a role in bringing Potty as a sponsor. The investigation team understood that since Tantri’s salary is paid by the government, he would come under the Prevention of Corruption Act.The investigation team indicated that it would investigate Tantri only when the High Court considered the case. The SIT had not clarified the role of the Tantri in Padmakur’s bail application. Due to this, the Tantri must have thought that he was not in any danger. Therefore, he came today as he had come to give his statement earlier. That is when he was arrested. The first interrogation took place at the center in Attingal. Later, he was brought to Eanchakkal. He will be produced in the judge’s chambers in Kollam today itself. Public will have to wait until the remand report comes to know what Padmakumar and Potty said about Kandararu Rajeevaru’s role.
